Working within our herd is an incredibly rewarding experience where you'll make a lasting positive impact in the lives of others.
No experience necessary, we are happy to train you!
You'll become part of our uplifting, inclusive, positive community of horse lovers, volunteers, horses, and participants. You'll make new friends and build meaningful connections with riders and volunteers alike.
You'll receive lots of knowledge and training about horses, horse care, and riding. Not to mention, you get to spend quality time with some of the most majestic, wonderfully healing creatures on this earth.
Volunteering has been shown to boost happiness, combat depression, increase self-confidence, and help with physical health. Working with horses in particular has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety and improve mood.
"Volunteering with PSEAT is an incredibly rewarding and meaningful experience for me. Horses are so emotionally in tune with us and it's fascinating watching the Prairie Sky herd work with the riders every time! Each herd member has such a quirky personality and they know how to make us all laugh. I've been around horses for most of my life, but seeing these horses interact with the riders and the therapeutic effect they have on the people they work with is like nothing I've seen before. It's so touching to see the connections develop between horse and rider, and seeing how our riders learn and grow."
"PSEAT is an amazing organization focused on confidence building and trust. It never ceases to amaze me how horses can bring out the best in people, and help our clients achieve some major milestones. This program is truly something special for everyone involved."
The horse lead will assume responsibility for the horse in the therapy team: guiding direction, controlling speed, and stopping and starting as needed. Horse leads may also direct riders in accomplishing these tasks themselves with your assistance.
Side walkers provide physical or focus-related support. They support the rider and are responsible for communicating to the Horse Lead when to stop and adjust.
All new volunteers get the opportunity to view a lesson, get acquainted with the team, horses, and students. You'll assist the Prairie Sky coach and volunteers, care for the horses, and shadow more experienced volunteers in Horse Lead and Side Walker roles. We encourage volunteers to sign up for 3 volunteer shadow shifts when getting started.
We also have positions open for photography, marketing, horse care, fundraising, and maintenance.
